Giant Christmas Village

There is a currently a LEGO Christmas Village set up at Time Square in Hong Kong.  You can read an article and watch a video describing it in more detail here.  The models were originally designed by Hong Kong LEGO fans, and then built at a size about 20 times larger than the originals.  Bill Toenjes (TooMuchDew) sent me one of the photos, because.... look!  A giant cheese slopes mosaic!   I assume (hopefully correctly) that the design was based off of one of one of mine.  In which case -- how cool is that?

I noticed this other beautiful snowy/starry mosaic background in the photographs taken by Joey Kwok (Bo-Chi Workshop).

See Joey's LEGO Village set for lots more photos.

In the video mentioned above, I saw a few more really neat mosaics, too, although I didn't find still photographs of them.  Since my birthday party is about to start, I will leave it to you, intrepid reader, to watch the video and look for them yourself.  ;-)

Building under Piece Constraint and The Nightmare Before Christmas

Mocpages user, Mark B. , shows it's possible to construct a great looking mosaic without all the pieces in the world.
This small Darth Vader was made entirely out of pieces found at a Pick-a-Brick wall at a LEGO store. This helps though when you work at a Lego store, of which Mark does. How long it took and how he designed it is a mystery. ;-D

What's not a mystery is his admiration and obsession for The Nightmare Before Christmas movie by Tim Burton, as displayed by two of his creations. The first one is a humongous eight feet tall and four and a half feet wide mosaic of the characters.

Of which this mosaic certainly uses a greater variety in pieces than the Darth Vader one.

And second, we have the Night"mare" stand that features several mosaics and working parts.

If you'd like to see anymore of Mark's creations, check out his Flickr here, his Mocpage here, and the creations featured here, here, and here.

"Ho ho ho! Merrrryyy Christmas!!!"

Flickr user, Alfred jr, posted a photo of a FFOL building/fixing/sitting by a Lego Santa mosaic during LEGO Kid's Fest 2010 of Hartford, CT. I'm not sure if the woman in the photo is the Flickr user (I doubt it), but if anyone can I.D. her for me, that would be great!

Anyway! The mosaic is awesome. ;-D

"Ho ho ho! Want do you want for Christmas, Susan? Lego! Of course you do! Ho ho ho..."

** Thanks to Bruce N H for sending me the link to the mosaic. If you have a mosaic you want to see featured, email me at mosaicbricks (at) gmail.com

"The weather outside is frightful, but the mosaics are so delightful..."

Flickr user, eilonwy77 (a.k.a. Katie Walker), creates a beautiful Holiday mosaic 9-pack filled to the brim with Christmas cheer that would fill up even the biggest of stockings.

Check out our interview with her here, in case you have missed it.
